he easiest way for me

to "lose" myself is to get wrapped up in a great movie. When I saw Babel in a movie theater with a gigantic sound system, I was "gone" for 90 minutes. Ecstasy, joy!

I have great admiration for those in the performing arts - people who have amazing talents and give their all to entertain.

I would like to see us, the fans, be kinder to them, allowing them freedom of movement without scrutiny and respecting

their privacy - my wish for the coming New Year.

As I explore joy, I've become much more discriminating in my choice of movies. I no longer want to watch violence, people in trauma, dysfunction, cruelty.

In the past, I wasn't aware of how all that negativity was imprinting on my brain and in my heart. Now, I say, "who needs it?" I want to leave the theater or my TV or computer monitor feeling better than when I arrived.

Mostly, I want to see new and different places, and learn about interesting people.
