friend asked me:

Could it possibly be so easy? Read a couple of books, take them to heart, and become peaceful? Could a lifetime of issues, suffering, and angst disolve in a short time?

Surprisingly, yes, that's how it was for me. The personal work I did for 15 years set the stage, for sure, but reading Eckhart Tolle's books "did the trick".

It was like flipping a switch. Maybe I was just ready so what he said resononated within me. It made sense...and meshed well with a Krishnamurti book I had just read.

Now, I have a framework. I'm practicing being present and aware. I'm incorporating conscienesss into my daily life. I'm looking at life in a different way...and the results are amazing! I have moments of awareness, peace, even joy!

A corner has been turned and every day brings new and interesting experiences.

Now that fear, boredom, and worry are no longer the favorite activities of my mind…I have so much extra time for relaxing, creating, and actually doing the things I was always railing against.

Here are the books I found most helpful.

An Eye Opener
Comfortable with Uncertainty... is another wonderful Pema Chodron book. I enjoyed listening to the unabridged audio book version read by Joanna Rote.

For Us Chatty Cathy's & Chatty Sue's
Eckhart Tolle talks about "mental noise", joy, and love in Stillness Speaks, his second book. I need to listen to this one many more times.

Healing Childhood Wounds
Affirmations for the Inner Child is specifically for survivors of dysfunctional families. Start the healing and put the past where it belongs…in the past.

Spiritual Mashup
Jewish Dharma: A Guide to the Practice of Judaism and Zen was a comfortable read for me, being a "mashup kind of girl." Thoughtful and well written!

When the Going Gets Tough
The Places That Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times offers wisdom and techniques to enable us to forge ahead...even when we don't want to. Another amazing Pema Chodron book!

The Fear of Commitment Factor
I gained so many important insights while reading Men Who Can't Love. Wisdom I hadn't picked up anywhere else.

Living Peacefully
A good read for Joy Explorers: The Four Agreements brings forth ancient Toltec wisdom on living joyfully.
